Hearing March 9 on P-burg pipe maker's requests for significant increases in air pollutant emissions
McWane Ductile in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, is requesting a significant increase in the amount of air pollution emissions they can emit from their pipe manufacturing plant. The NJ Department of Environmental Protections will hold a hearing this Wednesday, March 9, at 5:45 PM in the Phillipsburg Free Public Library.
The permit renewal involves some seriously dangerous chemicals including chromium, lead, mercury and arsenic. The company claims that the new levels will still be within State and Federal levels.
McWane Ductile purchased Atlantic States Cast Iron Pipe Co., the previous name of the facility that had a blighted history. Atlantic States and four of its employees were found criminally guilty of illegal burning and dumping charges in April 2006, following a seven-month trial, the longest federal criminal environmental trial in U.S. history.

The hearing is open to the public.
