On January 31, the Morning Call published a front page article titled “Fish caught in area not safe for consumption.” While I was delighted that the Call had actually covered a local environmental issue, I thought I’d contact some of the local leaders quoted in the article to get their take on it.
Based on their feedback, I’ve devoted this entire issue of Lehigh Valley Green to the issue of water quality and conservation in the Lehigh Valley. That scary headline is not the whole story. In fact, it’s only the beginning of the story. While the content was accurate, the tone and context were misleading and unnecessarily alarmist.
Let’s take a look at how we should interpret that article in terms of what it really says about where the Valley stands regarding water quality, conservation and pollution. And then, in the Collaboration and Advocacy sections, let’s see what we can do about it.
